A variety of medical techniques are used in fertility treatments to assist single people and couples in overcoming infertility issues. These range from sophisticated methods like in vitro fertilization (IVF) to medication-assisted ovulation. These procedures give women hope for getting pregnant. In vitro fertilization (IVF), a procedure that revolutionized fertility therapy and assisted millions of individuals in having children, will be discussed in this article.

What is IVF?

According to Dr. Deepika, who provides fertility treatment in Panchkula, IVF is a cutting-edge medical procedure that helps in child conception. In this operation, mature eggs are removed from the ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a lab. Embryos created from fertilized eggs are subsequently sent to the uterus for implantation.

The couple undergoing IVF has the choice of using their own eggs and sperms, those of a known donor, or anonymous donor eggs and sperm. Some couples may choose to use a gestational carrier, who will receive the couple's embryo and carry it to term.

IVF Process:- Below is a step-by-step description of the IVF process:

1.Ovarian Stimulation:-Fertility hormones are administered at the beginning of the IVF cycle to encourage the ovaries to generate more eggs. To improve the likelihood of fertilization, more than one egg is needed. Two weeks are needed for this process.

There are several drugs utilized, including:

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), or a combination of the two, in the form of injections, is used to stimulate the ovaries. These encourage the generation of many eggs simultaneously. Medicine for oocyte maturation: Follicles are ready for egg extraction after 8 to 14 days. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is now utilized to aid in the maturation of eggs. Medicines are used to prevent early release of developing eggs (premature ovulation prevention drug). Medicine for uterine lining preparation: To make the uterine lining more conducive to implantation, progesterone supplements are provided at the time of egg harvesting or embryo transfer.

2.Egg Retrieval:- Within 34 to 36 hours of the last injection and prior to ovulation, the mature eggs must be removed. The steps in the procedure are as follows:-

Patient sedation and pain medication are administered. Transvaginal ultrasound: Transvaginal ultrasound is used to locate follicles and direct the placement of a tiny needle used to extract eggs from the vagina. Abdominal ultrasound: The needle is guided using abdominal ultrasound if transvaginal ultrasound is unable to reach the ovaries. Egg retrieval: Using a needle attached to a suction apparatus, numerous eggs are removed. 20 to 30 minutes are needed for the retrieval. Following the surgery, you can have cramps. Eggs are incubated after being submerged in a nourishing liquid.

3.Sperm Retrieval:- The morning before egg retrieval, a semen sample of the partner's or sperm donor's sperm is given. Masturbation is a common way to gather semen. Sperm can sometimes be removed straight from the testis through a surgical technique called testicular aspiration. In the laboratory, the sperm and semen are divided.

4.Fertilization:- The egg is then fertilized with the sperm in the next stage. You can do it by:

Traditional insemination: This procedure involves mixing mature eggs and sperm and overnight incubation. Single, healthy sperm is directly inserted into the mature egg via intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

5.Embryo transfer:- After two to five days after egg retrieval, the last step is to implant the embryos in the uterus. It entails the following actions:

Sedative: A little sedative is given. Insertion of a catheter: A catheter is placed via the cervix, into the vagina, and into the uterus. Embryo on catheter: A syringe with embryos in various fluids is linked to the catheter's end. Using a syringe, the doctor inserts the embryos into the uterus.

If the procedure is successful, the embryo will be placed into the lining and conception will occur six to ten days following the egg extraction.
